Through the VOCAL Initiative, an international collaboration between the Bridge2AI-Voice Consortium (North America) and eVoiceNet (Europe), experts in medicine, speech science, artificial intelligence, and ethics have established the first international consensus on definitions related to vocal biomarkers.
This work introduces a standardized set of definitions and a hierarchical conceptual framework covering digital health concepts and domain-specific vocal biomarkers, including cardio-respiratory, voice, speech, and cognitive/language indicators. It provides an important foundation for the future development of guidelines and standards supporting the responsible integration of voice-based health technologies into research and clinical practice.
